Consultations

Keep in mind that you and your attorney will likely spend a lot of time together as your case progresses through the criminal justice system. It is crucial that you have a comfortable professional relationship.

What to Expect at your Initial Consultation with Valerie Prevatte

Upon arrival at the law office, you will be asked to complete a brief confidential questionnaire. While you are completing that form, Mrs. Prevatte may review any reports or warrants that you brought with you.

During your consultation, which typically lasts forty-five minutes, you and Mrs. Prevatte will discuss the general nature of your legal issue, the law as it relates to your issue, possible defenses available to you, your options as a means of resolving your legal issue, and an estimation of attorney’s fees and related costs.

Should you decide to retain Mrs. Prevatte, you and she will enter into a written contract for legal services. You may be asked to schedule a second appointment in which you and Mrs. Prevatte will discuss in greater detail the specific facts of your case.

Although it is preferable that the initial consultation be in person, we recognize that a face-to-face meeting is not always possible, especially if the prospective client lives out-of-state or is incarcerated. In such cases, other arrangements will be made for the initial consultation if the consultation fee has been prepaid. While free consultations are not offered, initial consultations do reflect a discounted hourly rate of the attorney’s usual billing rate.
